MAC Haute & Naughty Too Black Lash Mascara
This mascara is $20…do I think this is a splurge item or should you save your money?
Where To Buy: Maccosmetics.com, departments stores, MAC stores
Two different available “brushes” create different looks or layering options
Formula is too wet, even after being opened and used for a month or two
Brush is too large for the average eye
I love the packaging of this mascara. It comes boxed in standard MAC black box. The two wands are contrasting fuschia-purple tones. It’s easy to open the tube from either wand. It feels secure when it’s closed, but lacks the extra click some mascaras have to let you know the tube is really closed and won’t be opened accidentally while in a purse. The two brushes are a little confusing so here’s the breakdown. Brush #1 (the larger brush, closer to the tube) is messy when pulled from the tube; it has extra product on the tip of the mascara which I find unappealing. Brush #2 is much better. It’s wiped more cleanly. Brush #1 and #2 are the same brush. Brush #2 has been swiped through a cleaning, constricting tube once more, creating less of an abundance of product. A few pictures to demonstrate.
The effect it gives is pretty dramatic but I found the brush to be too big for my average-to-large sized eyes. I ended up dabbing mascara on my contacts and eyeballs. It does take some skill to apply.
I look at the pictures and I like how this mascara looks on. It looks full, dramatic, thick and long. I found the formula to be a fairly wet one so if you like wet formulas, you’ll like this. MAC mascara gets kind of a bad rap–it isn’t worth it for the money. I do find this to be comparable to many drugstore mascaras but I do like it better than some high end ones I’ve tried (Benefit Bad Gal and They’re Real, Flirt It Curl). It’s not my holy grail but it’s a decent mascara.
