cannot be worn alone/needs finesse
MAC paint pots have got it down. Screw top. Lots of product. I love the packaging.
I have waited to review this for a long time because I wanted to change my mind about it. But it’s just a terrible product from MAC. Simply put: It cannot do the job it’s meant to do.
Most Paint Pots are neutrals and are marketed to be eyeshadows but I think most people use them as a primer or a base underneath other colors. And for this purpose, Imaginary is fine. But it cannot be worn alone. It’s a crease-y, greasy, uneven, oily mess that I can’t work with. If there’s a trick to this, I’d love to know. I’ve used brushes, fingers and sponges and never gotten far with this. It cannot be described as long-wearing by any stretch without setting in powder.
I swatched many Urban Decay colors over it and used several Physician’s Formula pencil and gel liners with it, as well as 24/7 pencil liner in Perversion from Urban Decay and found it can look pretty cool underneath other colors. But it cannot stand alone.
My swatches go clockwise, starting at the 12 o’clock position.
Blue Bus- Urban Decay, Book of Shadows IV
Gunmetal- Urban Decay, Book of Shadows IV
Crystal- Urban Decay, Book of Shadows IV
Gravity- Urban Decay, Book of Shadows IV
Hijack- Urban Decay, Book of Shadows IV
The liners from clockwise, upper left are Physician’s Formula Shimmer Strips for Brown Eyes pencils in purple and brown, then Urban Decay Perversion (SO BLACK!) and Physician’s Formula Shimmer Strips for Green Eyes gel liner in green. It looked pretty cool, no?
I also did a few other swatches trying to make it look less-bad. I put a Kat Von D jungle green over it. I put it next to the purple gel liner. I tried applying it like a gel liner. Just nothing worked for this greasy mess–except to put powder over the top of it.
Overall, skip this one. $17 is too much for a product that has to be covered up by other products to function.
