Coastal Scents Brush Cleaner Review
Written by cassandraj, Posted in Cassandra, Product Review, Swatches
This brush cleanser did not work as well as MAC but that’s to be expected, given the price. And I would pay for this cleaner, especially to do spot cleaning on my brushes between deep cleanings.
Price: $5
Where to Buy: coastalscents.com
Pros:
Gentle on the brush
Cons:
Not deeply cleansing, compared to MAC Brush Cleanser
Packaging: Standard bottle of brush cleaner…pop-top cap, dribbles out too much product. Recommended to place cleaner in a smaller spray bottle for ease of use. Large bottle for the price.
Review:
This brush cleaner worked okay. But I already own MAC brush cleanser and found it to be superior. It’s hard to not compare them and it’s sort of unfair to Coastal Scents, I realize. But the point for this evaluation was whether my brushes simply came clean or not. Coastal Scents makes a cheaper product that doesn’t do the job quite as well as the more expensive product. Maybe this is a good thing, maybe in five years I’ll have brushes in better shape because this version is more gentle on the bristles. I do know, as a side by side comparison, my brushes still looked grimy after using the Coastal Scents Purifier. I spot treat my brushes using the TiffanyD/MAC method of making little wet spots on a folded napkin and swirling in different spots until the brush comes clean.
Overall
However, for the price, maybe I could handle giving my brushes a second swirl. A deep cleanse, with water did yield better (still not perfect) results. But what good is a brush cleaner that I can only use for deep cleanings? That’s more of a brush shampoo. Even as a brush shampoo, it was an inferior product to my other methods (dish soap + olive oil, MAC brush cleanser). Not a bad product and definitely an economical choice.
