Product Review: Anastasia Beverly Hills Illumin8 Bronzer, Flirt Big Flirt Lip Gloss, Ruby Kisses Very Sexy Mascara, Kevyn Aucoin Eye Shadow Palette
Essentials for a Night Out
Whether you’re going all out for with the girls or a special date night, here are some essentials that are sure to keep you glowing all night!
Product: Anastasia Beverly Hills Illumin8 bronzer in sun kissed
Pros: mirror inside compact, application was smooth and even, color was really natural-looking
Cons: can be too orange for fair skin tones (this is the lightest color they make)
Packaging: I liked the slim compact that this bronzer came in. Sometimes bronzers can come in very clunky packages that are a hassle to throw in a makeup bag but this was slim and light
Product Review: I’ve actually never tried any of the Anastasia Beverly Hills products so I was excited to try this bronzer. I consider myself a bronzer expert (a.k.a. I’ve tried about a hundred bronzers to give my less than tan skin a believable, golden glow). It went on really nicely and wasn’t orange on my skintone although I wouldn’t recommend this product for light or fair skin tones. I also really liked the fact that the brush picked up a good amount of bronzer so I didn’t have to keep applying layer upon layer. On the Anastasia website, it mentions that the bronzer is hydrating although I didn’t really get that from the bronzer. It certainly doesn’t dry out my skin but I didn’t notice that it was particularly hydrating.
Overall: All it took a few sweeps and I got a nice glow that actually lasted all night! I would recommend this bronzer to anyone with a medium skin tone.
Product: Flirt Big Flirt lip gloss in bigger than rose
Where to buy: Kohl’s, http://www.kohls.com/upgrade/webstore/product_page.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524892814724&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374757579498&searchTerm=flirt+big+flirt+lipgloss&bmUID=1323922422848
Pros: Loved the cute packaging! Application wand made gloss go on smoothly. The gloss wasn’t too sticky and glided on smoothly.
Cons: I didn’t love the large tube, especially because there are so many lip glosses that are so much smaller. However, I would definitely keep this in my lip gloss stash that stays at home!
Packaging: Overall, the packaging was adorable. However I didn’t love that the tube was a little chunky, I like a slimmer design. I think it would make a great gift for a pre-teen who loves to try out new products!
When I first tried this lip gloss, I really liked the large applicator and the fact that the gloss wasn’t sticky at all. It went on really smoothly and had a hint of strawberry/vanilla flavor. I also really liked the pink color. In fact, many of the Big Flirt glosses are in the pink family, some sheerer than others. I would love to try the more nude colors in this line. They all seem very wearable though and great to swipe on before leaving the house.
Overall: I had a generally positive experience with this gloss and it’s definitely wallet-friendly!
Product: Ruby Kisses Very Sexy Mascara
Pros: Nice separation/ no clumps and easy to remove. Great price point.
Cons: Plastic applicator didn’t make my lashes seem as full. Packaging was a little cheesy.
Packaging: The packaging reminded me of a cross between Ed Hardy and Victoria’s Secret
Product review: I always love a good black mascara so was anxious to try this one. The applicator was plastic as opposed to a “natural brush-type” of head, which I don’t usually love but it was nice for separation. I didn’t get any clumps like I usually do when the brush is fuller. I have long lashes to begin with so this did a nice job of evenly coating them and making them stand out. If I didn’t have long lashes, I think I would need a fuller brush to lengthen them.
Overall: I really liked this mascara, it did what it was supposed to do and wasn’t impossible to get off at the end of the night.
Product: Kevyn Aucoin The essential eye shadow set
Pros: Beautiful range of colors, almost creamy application it went on so smooth!
Cons: Colors may be very difficult for some skintones. Orange color wasn’t flattering or very wearable.
Packaging: The palette was very elegant-looking, not cheap at all, and it shows – both on the packaging and what’s on the inside.
Review: I love, love, love this eye shadow palette. At first you may think the colors look weird and you would never wear them but they were actually very complimentary to my skin tone (fair/medium) and eye color (green). I used the dark brown/purple color as a liner – I dipped an eyeliner brush in a little water and then dipped it in the color. The light pink color I used as a highlighter right under the brow bone and then I actually tried the other three colors a few different times. Sometimes together and sometimes separately. I actually liked mixing both the pink and purple colors together best but the purple also looked nice alone. The application was also very smooth and not chalky at all. It also stayed put for most of the night.
Overall – A very good palette – I would love to try some of the other color palettes. And remember, even though it’s pricey, you are getting 5 eyeshadows including some that could even be used as blush or lipstick (when mixed with clear lipgloss or Vaseline).
